Letโs set the record straight on something that drives me bananas (pun fully intended!)โfruit is NOT your enemy.
I hear it all the time:
โBut isnโt fruit sugar bad for you?โ
โShouldnโt I avoid bananas, mangoes, or dates because of the sugar?โ
Hereโs the truth โ the sugar in fruit is not the same as the processed, refined sugar hiding in sodas, pastries, packaged snacks, and most ultra-processed foods.
Fruit sugar comes wrapped in fiber, water, antioxidants, phytonutrients, vitamins, and mineralsโeverything your body thrives on.
Yet many people fixate on the tiny amount of sugar in their morning fruit bowlโฆ
while ignoring the massive amounts of highly refined sugars, animal fats, toxic additives, inflammatory oils, and chemically induced junk in the Standard American Diet.
Itโs time to flip the narrative. Letโs dive in!

๐Why Fruit is a Daily Must Have
Fruit isnโt just โnice-to-haveโ on your plateโitโs an essential part of a thriving, healthy lifestyle. Nature designed fruit to nourish and heal us. Not harm us.
Every time you eat a piece of fruit, youโre fueling your body with optimal hydration and powerful nutrients that work together in perfect harmony. Itโs natureโs multivitamin! ๐
Hereโs why fruit is so extraordinary:
Packed with nutrients: Fruits are rich in key nutrients like vitamin C (which boosts immunity), potassium (which supports heart health and balances blood pressure), and folate (important for cell growth and repair).
Loaded with antioxidants: Berries, cherries, pomegranates, grapes, and citrus are bursting with compounds that help protect your cells from oxidative stress and reduce inflammationโtwo big drivers of chronic disease.
Supports digestion and gut health: Thanks to their fiber and high water content, fruits help regulate bowel movements, nourish good gut bacteria, and keep your digestion smooth and regular.
Natural energy boost: The natural sugars in fruit, when combined with fiber, give you a steady, sustained energy releaseโwithout the blood sugar crashes you get from processed snacks (JUNK!).
Heart and brain protection: Research consistently shows that people who eat more fruits and veggies have lower rates of heart disease, stroke, cognitive decline, and cancers.
Satisfies your sweet tooth naturally: Instead of reaching for cookies or candy, let fruit be your go-to. Ripe mangoes, juicy peaches, figs, grapes, or a bowl of berries can curb sugar cravings in a delicious, nourishing way.
Bottom line: Fruit isnโt something to fearโitโs something to celebrate. Itโs one of the most healing, life-giving foods on the planet.

๐Tips + Tricks to Eat More Fruit (and Love It)
If you struggle to get enough fruit each day, or youโre stuck in a rut of the same oleโ, same oleโ, here are some fun, easy ways to add more fruit variety to your diet:
Start your day with fruit: Add berries, bananas, mango, and any other fruit you desire to your breakfast. Add them as toppings to your smoothie bowl, blend up a tropical smoothie with guava, pineapple, dragon fruit, and passion fruit, or conjure up a fruit salad with as many colorful ripened fruit you have access too. Whip up a delicious macadamia or cashew nut cream and drizzle it on top. Hereโs a video with a fruit salad I made recently and itโs sooooo good! The recipe is in the description. ๐
Snack smarter: Keep washed and ready-to-eat fruit visible in your fridge or on your countertop. Try apple slices with nut butter, frozen grapes, or cara cara oranges as an afternoon pick-me-up.
Make fruit the star, not just the side: Build fruit salads with fresh herbs, nuts, and a drizzle of lime. Layer smoothie bowls with granola, seeds, and colorful fruit toppings. Serve fresh pineapple or mango salsa with your meals.
Freeze it for a treat: Frozen bananas make dreamy โnice cream,โ frozen berries are great in yogurt or overnight oats, and you can never go wrong with watermelon juice or melon chunks.
Buy seasonal + local when possible: Not only will you get the best flavor and nutrition, but youโll also support local farmers and reduce your environmental footprint. I talk about this in this video here.
And donโt be afraid to try something new like persimmons, passionfruit, dragon fruit, and soursop. Explore the exoticsโฆ They are delicious!

๐ฟLetโs Talk About the Real Food Worries

So often I hear people stress over the natural sugar in fruit or the carb count in vegetablesโwhile barely blinking an eye at the ultra-processed, chemical junk foods filling their plates.
Letโs be clear on where the real concerns should be:
Highly processed foods: These are typically stripped of nutrients and loaded with refined sugars, artificial flavors, preservatives, and unhealthy fats that drive inflammation and chronic disease.
Factory-farmed animal products: Many are high in saturated fat, hormones, antibiotics, and environmental contaminantsโnot to mention the puss from tumors, disease developed, and low vibrational energy that develops in the poor sentient animals that are barbarically tortured and slaughtered as well as the damage its causing our planet.
Refined oils and added sugars: These lurk in nearly every packaged product and contribute to blood sugar issues, heart disease, and metabolic problems.
Artificial sweeteners and flavorings: While they may cut calories, they can disrupt gut health, increase cravings, and have unknown long-term effects.
Chemical additives and preservatives: Many are linked to allergies, hyperactivity, or more serious health concerns over time.
Instead of fearing the apple or banana, fear the food that comes in a crinkly package with an ingredient list you canโt pronounce.
The truth is, when you focus on whole, plant-based, minimally processed foodsโespecially fruits and vegetablesโyouโre already doing the most powerful thing you can for your health.
